Rob began his tree career right out of high school, joining the US Forest Service to be a wildland firefighter. For 13 years he worked on hand crews, engines and as a hot shot, and spent his final five years as a smoke jumper. He recently retired from wildland firefighting to spend more time with his family, pursue his passion for coffee roasting, and start his career in arboriculture. Rob has extensive felling experience, and has cut down thousands of trees in many different environments.
Craig Walkiewicz
Marlboro, NJ
Craig moved West in the mid-2010s, and began his tree career doing line logging in the Swan Range. For five seasons he fell trees, operated the skidder and other forestry equipment in all kinds of terrain and weather. In 2019 he shifted to arboriculture, and joined Up Tree Care in 2022.
Daniel Wood
Colorado Springs, CO
Daniel has been working as a tree climber for nine seasons. He recently moved to the Flathead from Colorado, where he led tree crews and performed a variety of pruning and removal work. Daniel joined Up Tree Care in fall of 2022.
Ryan Spencer
Asheville, NC
Ryan started his tree career on a trail crew ten years ago, felling trees by hand in the wilderness. After moving to the Flathead, he worked at RBM as a millworker, operating saws and equipment for six years. He joined Up Tree Care in spring of 2023.
Up Tree Care Equipment
We currently employ two Bandit disc chippers, two chip trucks, a 60′ boom truck, 14′ dump trailer, equipment truck, ASV skid steer with a forestry grapple, as well as a walk-behind Vermeer stump grinder. Combined with a quiver of chainsaws, ropes, ladders, pulleys, winches and other tree implements, we are capable of handling just about any urban forestry project.
Certified arborists based in Kalispell, Montana
Like many folks in this industry, Rob Brennecke and founding partner Devin Schmit both come from humble beginnings. After working for several years in arboriculture, the duo met on the job while subcontracting as arborists down in Polson. Shortly thereafter they were both hired as arborists for the City of Kalispell. After working briefly for the city, the pair started Up Tree Care in late 2019.
What began as a simple, two-man crew with a wood chipper has expanded greatly in the last three years. In July of 2021, Rob and Devin purchased Whitefish Tree Service and its assets, and hired two employees to help with the incredible demand for tree work in the Flathead Valley. In 2023, Rob took over Devin’s share and became the sole proprietor of Up Tree Care.
Up Tree Care arborists love being at height and doing quality work in the trees. They understand that trees are a vital resource, providing precious air, reducing carbon dioxide, cooling the pavement and improving our moods.
